Overview
The Region 10 Mental and Behavioral Health Team is made of a group of knowledgeable and experienced consultants with the goal of providing school districts and charter schools with the information and resources they need to address student issues related to mental and behavioral health.
The team members have a variety of backgrounds as behavior teachers, special education counselors, school psychologists, social workers, program specialists, and administrators. They have a great deal of expertise in a variety of topics such as classroom management, trauma informed practices, crisis prevention and intervention, threat assessment, restorative practices, positive behavioral interventions and supports, behavior improvement plans, functional behavioral assessments, and more.

Teacher/School/Program Consultations
A member of our team can observe and provide recommendations to support the professional growth and development of special education inclusion, resource, and self-contained teachers in addressing student behavioral and mental health needs. We can also meet with campus or district leadership and discuss practices and programming needs and challenges.

Behavior Leadership Support
Behavior leadership is a quarterly meeting where staff who provide support and leadership to teachers and specialists working with challenging student behavior can come together to collaborate, share experiences, work on programming, and discuss behavior strategies.
Each meeting participants will receive relevant legal updates, increase knowledge in topics related to behavior management/support, and be provided the opportunity to discuss specific concerns related to behavior support. Participants will be involved in round table discussions addressing various topics that are relevant to the role they play on their campuses and district.

Restorative Practices
During this training experience, attendees learn fundamental theories and practices for engaging with students, staff, and parents in the school setting. Topics include setting high expectations while being supportive, providing direct feedback and asking questions that foster accountability, and the most effective methods to resolve common conflicts.
This PD session is provided in alignment with the International Institute for Restorative Practices training model.

Youth Mental Health First Aid
Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach educators how to help an adolescent who is experiencing a mental health/addiction challenge or crisis. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations.
Attendees will need to complete required online content prior to attending.

Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI)
Our team provides training in the prevention, intervention, and de-escalation of crisis situations. Staff will learn how to identify the early stages of a crisis situation and how to respond appropriately to support a student in crisis. This training is provided using the Crisis Development Model from the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI).

Psychological First Aid
Psychological First Aid (PFA) is an evidence-informed modular approach to help children, adolescents, adults, and families in the immediate aftermath of disaster. Individuals affected by a trauma, whether survivors, witnesses, or responders to such events, may struggle with or face new challenges following the event.
PFA was developed by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network and the National Center for PTSD, with contributions from individuals involved in disaster research and response.

Sensory Supports in the Classroom
Participants will learn how to use sensory supports, paired with evidenced-based behavioral strategies, to help students channel their energy, regulate their emotions, minimize disruptive behaviors, and improve concentration.

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
PBIS is a component of the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support framework that is designed to address school-wide or district-wide behavioral systems. This framework will enhance the adoption and implementation of a continuum of evidence-based practices and interventions to achieve academically and behaviorally important outcomes for all students.

Region 10 Mental and Behavioral Health Consultants can come to your campus or district to provide professional development in areas related to classroom management, student mental health, trauma informed practices, restorative practices and discipline, functional behavioral assessment, behavior improvement plans, positive behavior interventions and supports, de-escalation and power struggles, suicide prevention and intervention, enhancing protective factors for students, and more.
