Region 10 ESC's Dyslexia Program provides both regional and state assistance to districts, charter schools, universities, parents, service centers, and other entities in the area of dyslexia.

Dyslexia Handbook

On September 3, 2021, the State Board of Education (SBOE) gave final approval to update the Dyslexia Handbook. Some of the updates to the Dyslexia Handbook may require LEAs to make policy, procedure, and practice changes. The updated Dyslexia Handbook will go into effect on February 10, 2022.

Please note: House Bill 3928 was passed by the 88th Texas Legislature (Regular Session) and impacts dyslexia evaluation, identification, and instruction. While the agency works to update the necessary materials, be aware that the law is effective immediately. The State Board of Education's proposed timeline for its required changes will be communicated as that timeline is determined and communicated to the agency.

LEAs are encouraged to inform staff and begin the process of preparing for implementation, so they are well-positioned to comply once the changes go into effect. The handbook contains guidelines for school districts to follow as they identify and provide services for students with dyslexia. In addition, information regarding the state's dyslexia statutes and their relation to various federal laws is included.
